Terms of use
Terms, readable.
These are the terms for using Rootkeep. They are short because the app asks so little of you: no account, no subscription, and nothing of yours held on my side of anything.
The deal
Rootkeep is free. Use it for as long as you like, for your own life or your work, on as many of your devices as you own. There is nothing to cancel, because there was never anything to sign up for.
Your data is yours
Everything you put into Rootkeep belongs to you. I claim no rights over your contacts, your notes, or a single word you write. I could not license or sell them even if I wanted to, because I cannot reach them: they sit on your phone and I have no servers.
Backups are your responsibility too. iCloud backup is there in Settings, and it is off until you turn it on.
The people in your list
Rootkeep stores details about other people, which is exactly what it is for, and that makes it your call rather than mine. Keep it to what you actually need, treat it the way you would want your own details treated, and be aware that the law where you live may have something to say about it.
Provided as-is
Rootkeep comes with no warranty of any kind. I build it carefully and I use it every day, but I cannot promise it is free of bugs, that it fits your particular purpose, or that it will never lose data. Keep a backup of anything you would hate to lose.
To the extent the law allows, I am not liable for loss or damage arising from using the app. Where the law does not allow that, liability is capped at what you paid for Rootkeep, which is nothing.
The advisor and your own key
The AI advisor is optional and runs on an Anthropic API key that belongs to you. Anthropic bills you directly for what you use. I do not resell it, mark it up, or see any of it, and that relationship is between you and Anthropic under their terms. Leave the advisor switched off and the rest of Rootkeep works exactly as well, at exactly the same price.
Fair use, in one line
Use Rootkeep to keep up with people you know. Do not use it to harass, stalk, or profile anyone, and do not break, resell, or repackage the app.
Changes
If these terms change, this page changes and the effective date moves with it. Carrying on with the app after that means you are fine with the new version. The app runs offline, so nothing here can be pushed onto you mid-sentence.
